FED: Aust military observers to join US exercise in Qatar
SYDNEY, Dec 7 AAP - Australian military observers will reportedly join a massive USmilitary exercise in the Persian Gulf state of Qatar to test command systems that wouldbe used in a war with Iraq.
The Sydney Morning Herald said today that the classified exercise, called `InternalLook', would begin on Monday, and Australia's inclusion pointed to expectations that itwould take part in any US-led war.
The paper said the head of the Australian defence staff in Washington, Major-GeneralSimon Willis, had confirmed that Australian officers were expected in Qatar, which waslikely to be a nerve centre for any war.
It said Australian SAS forces were expected to join any Iraq war, along with navalforces and P3 Orion reconnaissance aircraft which could be based in Qatar.
