TRACK FACTS.(LIFE & LEISURE)

Here are four good places to watch people at the track: The clubhouse: Stroll past the boxes held for decades by racing scions, and you may run into a Whitney, a Phipps or trainer D. Wayne Lukas. The $50 window: The late oddsmaker Jimmy the Greek hung out here. These days you might run into a sports celebrity such as Boston Celtics coach Rick Pitino. The winner's circle: Watching rich women trash their heels in dark loam will give the average person a sense of satisfaction.

The jockeys' lounge: From the winner's circle, follow the jockeys back to their quarters. You can't get in, but you can glimpse the fearless riders.
