NSW: Man jailed for shooting dead man in Wollongong street

A man has been jailed for 12 years after shooting and killing a man and injuring several
bystanders in downtown Wollongong.

30-year-old ZLATAN POPOVIC had been charged with murdering 33-year-old VEDRAN RAVNYAK,
in one of the city's main shopping areas in February 1999.

Today, POPOVIC was sentenced for manslaughter in the New South Wales Supreme Court,
after he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

Justice BARRY O'KEEFE says he's satisfied RAVYNAK made continuing threats to kill POPOVIC's
mother and son after POPOVIC began going out with RAVYNAK's former girlfriend.

Justice O'KEEFE says he believes POPOVIC now regrets the shooting, which injured nine
pedestrians.
