SA: Older cars not safe says insurer

A study has found the old Holden Kingswood may be an icon of Australian motoring, but
it could be something of a deathtrap compared with modern cars.

South Australia's SGIC insurance group says people involved in a frontal crash in a
1977 Kingswood are five times more likely to suffer a life threatening injury than those
in a current model Holden Commodore.

Drivers of old Mitsubishi Sigmas, Toyota Corollas and Ford Falcons are also at greater
risk than in their modern equivalents, emphasising the improved safety of new cars.
